Happy Independence Day!

Wishing everyone a safe and happy 4th of July! It was quite muggy out tonight, but I made the best of it and managed to get a couple of good shots! I love painting with light, so of course I included a sparkler star in honor of this special day. Yes, that's me behind the star! Sparklers are incredible fun, and I hope to incorporate them in some future photo sessions!

Mosteller Mansion - K & C

I had the wonderful opportunity to shoot this amazing couple at the Mosteller Mansion in Hickory, NC. What an exquisite setting! I really enjoy working with back and side lighting, so I put some emphasis on such lighting since we had beautiful floor-to-ceiling windows to work with! These are just a few of the images from yesterday's session. I made these black and white and I just love the classic mood it gives. What a perfect way to celebrate 5 years of marriage!

Graduation & Mother's Day!

First of all, I'd like to wish all the brilliant moms out there a very happy Mother's Day! You wonderful ladies are the key to our future generation, and you're superheroes! It's your day today so enjoy it! Here is a simple collage I made recently for an awesome mother of two. Let me know if creative, custom collages are something you're interested in. Contact me today to book your session! Mention my blog and take 10% off any print package! (Contact me for pricing). Photography makes an amazing gift because not only do you get pictures to share with loved ones, but you get a fun, unique experience as well. Those are the best memories to capture and share!

Next, I want to share this personal achievement with a couple of self-portraits. I graduated this week with an A.A.S. degree in Photographic Technology. It was a bittersweet day, and I am so very glad my father was able to be there to watch me walk across that stage. While classes are over for me, I will be continuing my education in photography as much as possible in the years to come. I am currently skilled in portraiture, Photoshop, digital imaging, studio lighting, documentary photography, wedding photography, commercial photography, multimedia production and much, much more! I am looking forward to progressing in this amazing field while capturing as many special moments as I can!

Prom 2016

I am about to graduate with an A.A.S. degree in Photographic Technology, so I have had many projects keeping me busy as of late. I am so glad I was able to work with these lovely seniors last-minute for their prom pictures! I love shooting in urban settings, and the cloudy weather turned out to be perfect for this particular prom session. Using an extra light source really gave some of the images that "pop" and wow factor I'm always after, while nature's natural softbox (clouds) kept skin tones nice and soft. Country Lemonade Stand Session

I used to set up lemonade stands this time of year back in the day, and I knew it would be a fun theme for this session to create a unique sense of nostalgia. These boys are hard little workers! I wanted to showcase this, along with that classic sense of innocence that comes from a more candid approach. This is childhood, and these are the snippets in time that are worth capturing and keeping forever. Would you buy fresh, raspberry lemonade from these cuties? Who could say no? Let's just say that at the end of the day, their hard work paid off! Please leave a comment and let me know if you would like to see more creative sessions like this. Come back soon for more updates!
P.S. New logo! :)

Welcome!

Hello and welcome!
I am so glad you are here because this is where you'll get an exclusive look at how I view and interpret our world through the wonderful, scientific art of photography! I am excited to share with you the many things that influence my work. One of the greatest purposes of photography is to inspire. For my first post, I'm sharing what has probably been my biggest inspiration- my father. I began my education in film photography using his old Canon A-1. My favorite, most durable tripod is actually the one my dad used decades ago and passed down to me.

This photo of him was taken in the living room at our home. I love using natural light and window light on my subjects. My dad enjoys watching TV, and often wears headphones so it doesn't get too loud in the house. He also wears a prism on his glasses after his vision was impaired by a stroke in 2011. He is now a 5-year stoke survivor. There is always something about surviving catastrophe that speaks such volumes. My dad has had a remarkable recovery, and if that isn't inspiring I don't know what is! What do you see when you look at this photo? Be sure to leave a comment, and check back frequently so you can stay up to date with new photos, stories, and more! You don't want to miss out!
